This short biographical note covers the life of one of Africa’s great Victoria explorers and anti-slavery advocates. It provides the author’s summary of the life, motives and character of this man who, more than most others, thrust central Africa onto the world stage. It covers his early life, his missionary endeavours in what is northern South Africa and Botswana; his “exploration” years in pursuit of trade, enlightenment and knowledge; and his final dedication to rid eastern Africa of the scourge of slavery.
