This booklet is a useful summary of the evolution of the regional railway system; the creation of part of Cecil John Rhodes’ dream of a railway from Cape-to-Cairo. The booklet covers the different sections of the railway network once built by Rhodesia Railways and its affiliated companies, as well as some of characters in this romantic and at times tragic story. The foundation of the rail network in Zimbabwe, Zambia and central Mozambique are covered. It also discusses three subsidiary railway projects, investments which are inseparable from the development of the country and the tourist industry in particular – the Victoria Falls Bridge; the Victoria Falls Hotel; and the Road Motor Service (RMS).
